Historian Update - November 2023

Making History

Our 2023 Past Presidents’ Night was a very special one for our chapter, as Bob Junker, SAC president 1973, had just celebrated his 100 birthday the previous Saturday. He celebrated by playing a round of golf, and even walked half of it! We were honored to have him at our dinner to impart his wit and wisdom gained in 100 years of being on this great planet. He gave credit to his long life and successful career on being lucky. We should all be so lucky to have his stamina and quick mind at 100!

There were also 17 past presidents and one founding member in attendance for the dinner at Fort Calgary, from terms ranging from 1973 to last year’s president, Rick Westover. Thank you for your time and enthusiasm everyone!

Peter Litwinow gave a brief history of the Industry Fishing Derby, held every September in the Shuswap, including the fiery reason why it is no longer called the ASHRAE fishing derby. He also gave a short memorial for long-time Derby fisherman and colleague, Mike Bauer, whose life was tragically cut short last year. He left many great memories behind with all the people who were lucky enough to know him.

Erich Binder then gave a presentation on our sustainable communities project at the Kid’s Cancer Camp in Water Valley. He thanked the following companies for volunteering time and donating equipment to bring the buildings at the camp up to code.

DCS Agency Ltd.

Fusion Plumbing and Heating

Wolseley Canada

CRHC Contracting Inc

Thank you to everyone in attendance for making it a great night. And happy birthday again to Bob Junker for being 100 years young. We expect to see you next year to hear about your new adventures!
